WHAT IS THE GOLDEN RULE PROJECT?
THE ENLIGHTENING AND EMPOWERING OF STUDENTS, PARENTS, TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF AMERICA'S SCHOOLS Paula Baack
Mission Statement:
Applying the principle of the Golden Rule, students, parents, teachers and administrators will better demonstrate “treating others as you wish to be treated”. Recognizing each student’s story and fostering an atmosphere void of prejudice is paramount to success-based outcomes. This will be accomplished through a 30 minute student/teacher meeting (at least three times per week), with a regularly assigned teacher. This instructor will provide mentoring, appropriate social interaction and address possible mental health issues.

Already I can hear the clucking of tongues, loud eye rolls and the overall distrust of anything associated with Biblical teachings. Yes, Jesus spoke “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Viewing the chart below, Christianity is one of many world religions which embraces the concept of the Golden Rule.
Could this simple construct find a place in America’s public schools? Would students, parents, teachers and administrators make an effort to positively change public school environments? Let’s hope so because our schools are destined for a rude awakening the fall of 2022: the largest teacher shortage in our lifetime; students’ social and mental growth stunted by mask mandates, lockdowns/hybrid learning models; and an educational agenda, professed in many school districts, is more concerned with gender fluidity than achieving “at grade level” test scores in academic subjects.
I guess the only group of people left who could complain about implementing the Golden Rule Project would be the atheists and agnostics. I would argue all people, whether religious or not, believe in the F word… FAIR. The entitled and those who measure their life as a scoreboard of wins and losses, speak this F word fervently.
Five years ago this week, I was unceremoniously forced out of my 46 year teaching career. My principal appeared to advocate for me but in the end succumbed to the pressures of my department to remove me. A few days ago this same administrator received “Principal of the Year” in the school district. Fairness is a commodity in short supply. Truth is, the art of fairness continues to be a challenge for the human race. As a teacher, I found this F word (Fair) used far more than the other F word. Parents use it as a default for most accusations of teacher misconduct. Students imitate their parents when they verbally assault coaches and teachers in the name of fairness. Over the years, I worked for administrators who seldom practiced it. And yet, we continue to search for it in the name of equality, equity, social justice, and those other woke words which seem to inflame rather than calm.
What is the secret to creating an environment of fairness? How can we teach our children, parents, teachers, and administrators to walk in each other’s shoes? Could schools actually implement the Golden Rule Project and expect positive outcomes? Stay tuned for my next blog/podcast. RESCUE THE TEACHER, SAVE THE CHILD! A fantastic book (even if I say so myself!) found at Amazon/Barnes & Noble. Order your copy today. In a world of negative reviews, this book received 14 FIVE STAR ratings so far and it won the 2020 TopShelf non-fiction book award.
REVIEW FROM AMAZON: This book is an honest description of some of the many obstacles that get in the way of teachers doing their best for our children. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone who had a child in school read the book? It is an educational read for anyone.
